Press Statement by Segambut Welfare Association Chairman

Press Statement by Segambut Welfare Association Chairman, Dr.Wong Ruen Yuan

Segambut Welfare Association was registered in 1997. In the year 2005, we applied for a piece of Government land (Land Area 1 7,427 sq. ft) in the vicinity of Desa Parkcity, in Segambut and in the year 2009, the Government has approved our application and gazetted the land to our Segambut Welfare Association Kuala Lumpur, for right of use. We have submitted our building plans (A two storey building, with build up area of 10,000 sq. it. ) to Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and the plans were approved just recently. This is our first charity home project and we have high hopes, determination and heart to see it through together with a community that cares.

The proposed cost of the building is about RM2 Million (to construct and furbish the building) for the housing of the orphans and the minding of the elderly (for a nominal fee) irrespective of race. We also have plans to have free modem and traditional medical services and also dental treatment weekly, especially for the poor, sponsored by our kind volunteers, at no cost. This benevolent project aims to give the poor, the orphaned and the aged opportunity to have a place called home, while being loved and cared for as a family. The estimated monthly maintenance and overheads is between RM40,000.00 -RM60,OOO.QQ. This includes all service and maintenance fees to ensure that the building areas are kept clean, manicured and sanitary and also the monthly wages of workers and utility bills.

Our Association have been giving out donations to the poor, sick and handicapped, ever since the formation of the Association in 1997. Every year, we have been organizing Chinese New Year' Ang Pow' presentations and dinner to the poor.

The centre will be made-up of two main portions at the Ground Floor, one assigned for men and young boys and another, for women and young girls and also a medical treatment room. The First Floor takes on as the 'activity hub' for games and recreation and an assembly hall and community hall.

In conjunction with the initial stage of fund raising, the Association will organize a “Charity Park Run”  in which the venue will be in the prestigious Desa Park City.   Detail of the Run will be presented by Organizing Chairman Mr. Steven Leong.
